Georgina Trades Training Inc. (GTTI) was established in 2006 as a not for profit organization that would create access to innovative learning opportunities in Georgina. We have accomplished our mandate and continue to thrive, year after year, as we introduce new programs that address the needs and aspirations of the individuals and community we serve.
On March 31 2020, the Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development, and the Provincial and Municipal governments signed a funding contract with GTTI to establish the GTTI Skilled Trades Institute (GTTI-STI) in Jackson’s Point, ON.
Starting on January 5, 2021, the institute welcomed over 100 students to its temporary campus to begin their pre-apprenticeship training. To date, students have used their practical skills to build multiple fully serviced structures on campus.
Over 80% of students are from York Region
22% of enrolled students are women
70% of practical learning is delivered on campus
By the end of 2021, a permanent campus will be built on Metro Road allowing GTTI-STI to continue to train 240 students each year in eight residential construction trades, including, Electrical, Plumbing, HVAC, Carpentry, Cabinetry, Flooring, Roofing and Drywall.
As part of the curriculum, students will be building and finishing 1,100 square foot bungalows to be sold within Georgina, York Region and surrounding areas.
Through this innovative training model, all graduates of the GTTI-STI will be work- ready or go on to further apprenticeship training.
GTTI’s original Training Centre is located in Sutton West, which hosts digitally-equipped instructional spaces, administrative offices, a multi-purpose shop area, and advanced technologies for learning. Many of our courses are taught within the building, which offers a computer lab, access to high speed Internet, a welding suite, forklift training, facilities for small engines repair, carpentry and much more.
