Roofing & Carpentry Program
In our Roofing & Carpentry program, students will learn to work with a variety of equipment, materials and use processes to meet the required professional standards and design specifications in a safe and efficient manner. This pre-apprenticeship program gives students the opportunity to gain theoretical knowledge and in-house practical training to successfully complete a roof installation and residential carpentry.

Program Description
This 26-week program consists of both in-class and in-shop training and it’s designed to provide you with theoretical knowledge of all aspects of residential roofing and carpentry as well as practical training necessary to begin an apprentice on-the-job training experience. Students will gain experience in rigging and hoisting, site preparation, calculations and architectural drawings, tools, equipment and materials, roof systems and applications, maintenance, water and damp proofing and sloped roofing applications. Students will have the opportunity to construct full scale modular homes, that will be going up on building sites throughout York and surrounding regions. They will also work alongside seven other trades allowing them to be jobsite confident.

Roofers and Carpenters have numerous avenues for potential employment in both residential, commercial and industrial applications. Both are vast trades that have students exposed to many different construction areas which provides an endless list of job opportunities. Roofers install, repair and replace flat and sloped roof systems, work with membrane roofing systems, install green roofs and solar panels and waterproofs and damp-proofs roof systems.

Admission Information
Admission requirements
- Grade 10 Math (C or U)
Mature students, non-secondary school applicants (18 years or older), and home school applicants may also be considered for admission. Eligibility may be met by applicants who have taken equivalent courses, upgrading, completed their GED, and equivalency testing.
